Influenced by the imaginative work of Jan von Holleben, Hellen van Meene and Katy Grannan, Sarah Jameson is fascinated by portraiture and the delicate equilibrium achieved between actuality and imagination, between the world observed and an emotional world conjured up by the artist. Her work rests on the boundaries between portraiture and the constructed image, particularly focussing on the way in which portraits can allow the subjects to offer themselves up to the camera lens and begin to perform. She tends to work collaboratively with her subjects to allow this performance to happen.
