Francesca Lever

My work isn't plastic.
It's natural.
Organic.
It's just what it is.

Francesca Lever comes from an artist family. Her father John Lever is an artist, her uncle Richard Lever is a photographer and her uncle Stewart Lever was an archiect. Francesca was fascinated with the arts at a young age, and remembers watching Jurassic Park and Terminator 2: Judgement Day and being totally engrossed but what she saw on screen. "I saw Cameron's Terminator and thought.. 'Oh my God I have to work in movies. When other kids wanted to be firemen or nurses, I was the bossy child who was talking about how I was going to be a director.'" Lever recalls.

Lever's family were unsure of her career path at first, they preferred that she became a photographer, at the tender age of 17 her work was already being shown in magazines and in art galleries in Petworth. Francesca was itching to work on a filmset. An opportunity came when her class mate Sam Cavalli Greeen suggested she meet with his mother Lisa, a BAFTA winning make up artist for her work on the British Comedy series 'Little Britain.' Francesca jumped at the opportunity. She was invited to one of the most famous studios in England, and Hollywood-Pinewood Film Studios. She worked as an assistant on the Ricky Gervais show 'Extras'

The experience was long and gruelling but gave Francesca a true insight as to how the film industry worked. She chased oppotunities constantly and managed to gain work experience at the BBC, MGM, BAFTA, Pinewood Studios, ITV, and completed some stills for Le Grande Cirque for Band of Brothers actor Matthew Leitch.

Since Francesca stills attends UCA but crams in as much job experience as possible and has made some incredible friends. "I love the comradeship with a crew. I get to observe all these individuals around me. It's a bit like playing 'Lets Pretend' when you're a child. "Lets build a spaceship! You bring the wood, I'll get the paint." Except the spaceship is costing 18 million and the kids are all my parent's age." Although constantly keeping connected with the film industy, Francesca also makes sure university stays her priority "Some people ask why I do this. Surely she should concentrate on univeristy? The fact is I love learning. As much as possible. I'm tennacious. It's taken five years of phone calls, nagging, and persistence to get the experience I have. I have gotten the film bug quite severely, and it shows little sign of budging!"
