Working primarily with portraiture, Kat Bubien uses the genre to explore various notions of social dynamic. The series you see here titled Caius, is a study into one of the Cambridge University colleges. After time observing the habitants, a collection of portraits combined with still lives was produced for the viewer to question stereotypes made about such a traditional institution where hierarchy is of importance.
Kat is currently working on a self-portraiture project, examining issues of identity between her and others, You & I is an exploration into how portraiture can evoke assumptions when more than more person is in the frame, through heightened uncertainty and ambiguity.
